Roland, co-founder and managing partner, has been active since the early 90’s by earning money from new media. Since June 2010, he has joined the management of Entelligence Group BV – the holding company of Tastelink. Previously, Roland worked as a country manager at the Managed Futures Fund called Superfund (1.3 MRD under management control); here, he was member of the international management team.
During his college days in Groningen, he organized an investment game with his friends. This resulted in the creation of ESEC Educational Entertainment (1991 – 2001). He is also the founder of the Nationale Beurscompetitie, Management Game Nederland and Nationale Voetbalspel. Today, this company has grown into an internet company and has earned huge profits. It is active in at least a dozen countries in Europe.
Presently, Roland is also a partner in Windmill Quant Fund and amongst others, he also participates in the innovative customer card company Brand@Hand. Since 2010, he is a permanent member of Valorisatie Commissie van TNO/Technologiestichting STW.
Arjen, scientific researcher and (independent) advisor on behalf of the Centrum Wiskunde & Informatica (CWI), is an experienced computer scientist specialized in information access to dataspaces through the integration of information retrieval and databases.
Group leader of the CWI research group Interactive Information Access (INS2), the main topics of his research include structured document retrieval and entity ranking, multimedia information retrieval, the application of information retrieval theory to recommendation systems and social media, nearest neighbour search in high dimensional spaces, the integration of information retrieval and database technology, and the evaluation methodology needed in these novel information retrieval application areas.
His long term goal is to create artifacts that assist us smoothly in our daily lives, aiming to improve our experiences at work and pleasure. He is especially interested in the data management aspects involved, hypothesizing that better tools to manage collections of multimedia data and to control the processes that operate on that data enable progress beyond the current ‘local optima’ achieved in different disciplines.
Ruben, founder and managing partner of the Entelligence Group BV, has over 15 years of experience as an ICT entrepreneur and networker. He has guided various international businesses through its pioneering stages. As a marketing manager, he was co-responsible for the first 50,000 subscribers of Planet Internet KPN and undertook the final responsibility for bringing in Apple users to Planet Internet. Subsequently, he worked as head product development new media at PCM. He was responsible for the online operation of various national newspapers and reported to the board of directors.
He has created various flagship products: the only profitable electronic newspaper de Volkskrant, the Volkskrant e-mail with thousands of paying subscribers, and the Volkskrant webshop. Subsequently, he was director of internet at Quote Media (after the French takeover Hachette Filipacchi Media Netherlands BV called HFM) responsible for increasing the number of visitors and sales of all sites of HFM (ex. Quotenet.nl, Elle.nl, SanteOnline.nl, Fiscalert.com, Ellegirl). He also undertook the final responsibility for the structure of the exclusive joint venture between HFM and the Soccer Association KNVB, Football Media BV. This organization is responsible for the content and turnover of Voetbal.nl (the official complete site for all 1.3 million members of KNVB) and OnsOranje.nl (the site of all national teams with over 700,000 unique visitors per month, at that time).
After a transfer to a permanent management team, Ruben decided to start the social recommendation company, Tastelink BV by participation of TNO ICT.
